NEW TO ASO-OKE?
Think of aso-oke as a Nigerian cousin to traditional kente—not the same textile, but both come from West Africa’s rich tradition of weaving cloth in narrow strips. Aso-oke is a historic Yoruba textile from Nigeria, traditionally woven in strips that can be sewn together to create larger pieces of fabric.

Unlike smooth cotton Ankara, aso-oke has a distinctive woven texture and more structure. It has traditionally been used for beautiful ceremonial and special-occasion clothing—from full statement outfits and wrappers to gele/headwraps—and today it can be used for everything from dresses, jackets and skirts to bags, accessories and dramatic accents.

DON’T LET THE NARROW WIDTH FOOL YOU!
That’s part of what makes aso-oke special. Use a single strip for accents and accessories, or join multiple strips together to create the width you need for larger garments and projects.
