Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to travel to Nigeria?

Yes. U.S. citizens need a visa to enter Nigeria. Currently the tourist visa costs approximately $160. After booking, we will provide detailed step-by-step guidance to make the process easy. Most participants use the Nigerian eVisa application online.

Are any vaccinations required for this trip?

Yes — proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into Nigeria and must be presented upon arrival. This is a strict requirement for travelers from the United States and many other countries.

We recommend getting your yellow fever shot at least 10 days before departure, as that’s how long it takes to become valid for travel. Most travel clinics and some pharmacies offer it, and you’ll receive an official yellow vaccination card (also called the “yellow card”), which you must bring with you on the trip.

In addition to yellow fever, we also strongly recommend that you are up to date on routine vaccinations (like MMR, tetanus, and COVID-19), and consider anti-malaria medication — which your doctor or travel clinic can prescribe based on your health profile and travel plans.

Do I need travel or medical insurance for this trip?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for all participants, though it is not required. A good policy can help protect your investment in the event of unexpected changes — like flight cancellations, missed connections, lost baggage, medical emergencies, or the need to cancel your trip.

We especially recommend looking for a plan that includes:

  • Trip cancellation or interruption coverage
  • Medical coverage while abroad
  • Emergency evacuation
  • Baggage loss or delay

Many travelers find peace of mind with companies such as:

  • Allianz Travel Insurance
  • World Nomads
  • Seven Corners
  • Travel Guard by AIG
  • SafetyWing (great for longer stays or digital nomads)

Before purchasing, be sure to read the fine print and confirm what’s covered, especially regarding COVID-19 or pre-existing conditions. You can often buy travel insurance at the time of booking your flight, through your credit card, or directly from an insurer's website.

Though optional, travel insurance is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your plans when traveling internationally.

Are flights included in the package?

No, international airfare is not included. Travelers are responsible for booking their own flights to Lagos (LOS – Murtala Muhammed International Airport). We recommend arriving by 2:00 PM or earlier on Day 1 to allow ample time to navigate Lagos traffic, check in at the hotel, and settle in before the Welcome Dinner.

What’s included in the cost?

For Basic and Premium Packages:

  • 6 nights in 4-star accommodations
  • All group meals
  • Airport transfers
  • Local transportation
  • Entry to all scheduled events
  • Welcome gifts
  • Guided support during your entire trip

Additionally for Premium Packages:

  • Non-Standard Upgraded Hotel Room
  • Custom Wardrobe Fitting: One custom tailored outfit is included
  • African Wine Tasting: 2 Appetizers, Entree, and a tasting flight of 6-10 wines per person
  • Tirta Ayu Spa Day: Choice of Royal Javanese Ritual, Chocolate Palm Sugar Package, Milk Body treatment, or similarly priced services
  • VIP Table at local lounge/ club with an additional max budget of N200,000 per person for bottle service

When should I arrive and what airport should I use?

Travelers should book their flights to Lagos (LOS – Murtala Muhammed International Airport). We recommend arriving by 2:00 PM or earlier on Day 1 to allow ample time to navigate Lagos traffic, check in at the hotel, and settle in before the Welcome Dinner.

Can I purchase premium experiences a la carte without upgrading to the full Premium Package?

Yes! If you’d like to enjoy select premium experiences without booking the full Premium Package, you’re welcome to add them à la carte:

  • Custom wardrobe fitting + outfit: $175
  • VIP Table at Lagos Nightlife Lounge: $250
  • African Wine Tasting: $75
  • Exclusive Spa Package (~3 Hours): $150

We strongly recommend reserving any à la carte add-ons before departure to ensure availability of transportation, service providers, and scheduling.

What happens after I make a payment?

Within 24 to 48 hours of receiving your payment, our team will send you a confirmation message that includes all required forms to complete your booking. These forms must be reviewed, completed, and signed to finalize your participation in the tour.

Approximately 1 month before the trip, everyone who has submitted at least the security deposit will be added to the official Lagos Tour Whatsapp group in order to receive real time updates. This is the same Whatsapp group that will be used as the official means of communication during the tour.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Cancellation & Transfer Policy

  • On or before September 19, 2025 – You may cancel your participation. Any amount paid beyond the non-refundable deposit will be refunded, or you may transfer your spot to another individual at no additional charge.
  • September 20 – October 1, 2025 – No refunds will be issued. You may still transfer your spot to another individual, but it is your sole responsibility to find and confirm the replacement traveler.
  • After October 1, 2025 – No refunds or transfers are permitted.

Important Notes:

The replacement traveler must complete all required paperwork and meet all travel requirements (including obtaining a valid Nigerian tourist visa) within the necessary timeframes.

The Tour Operator assumes no responsibility for whether a replacement traveler is able to meet these requirements or be approved for travel. If they are unable to do so, no refund or credit will be issued.

All transfers must be submitted in writing to the Tour Operator for approval and processing.

What part of Lagos will we be staying in?

Our accommodations will be located in or near the Lekki area of Lagos, offering convenient access to many of the city's premier cultural and coastal attractions.

How many people will be on the trip?

This is a small, intimate group — no more than 14 travelers. You’ll get to know one another without being overwhelmed.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely. Many of our guests come solo. You’ll be part of a safe, supportive group with curated opportunities to connect and feel at ease.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

We’ve designed this tour to be as accessible as possible. Most of our venues are upscale and equipped for diverse needs, and we’ve planned the itinerary with wheelchair users in mind. Additional real-time accommodations will be made if needed. However, please note that accessibility standards may vary from those in the U.S.

Are LGBTQ+ travelers welcome?

Yes, with care. While LGBTQ+ rights are not widely accepted in Nigeria, there is a quiet, thriving community as in every part of the world. Public displays of affection (of any kind) are generally avoided, and discretion is advised. That said, you will not be bothered or questioned — and your privacy and dignity will be fully respected.

Is there anything important to know about local customs, safety, or travel logistics?

Yes, especially if this is your first time visiting Nigeria. Here are some helpful things to keep in mind to make your trip smoother and more enjoyable:
• Local Customs & Dress: Nigeria is known for its hospitality and strong sense of community. In major cities like Lagos — a megacity that is fast-paced, cosmopolitan, and highly international — you’ll find a wide range of styles and lifestyles. However, in more conservative or rural areas, it’s a good idea to dress modestly out of respect for local norms. For women, this might mean wearing loose-fitting clothing that covers the shoulders and knees; for men, avoiding overly casual or beachwear in non-coastal areas.
• Staying Connected: Most travelers buy a local SIM card for their phone once they arrive — it’s inexpensive and allows you to make local calls and use data. If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry — someone from your group or the tour staff can help. Apps like WhatsApp are the primary way people in Nigeria communicate. It’s free and works on Wi-Fi or data, so we highly recommend downloading it before your trip.
• Getting Around & Safety: Like many large cities around the world, Lagos has both exciting energy and areas where you should use caution. It’s best to use trusted transportation, like ride-hailing apps (e.g. Bolt or Uber), and avoid going out alone at night, especially in unfamiliar neighborhoods. If you plan to explore on your own, always let your tour director or group leader know your plans and expected return time. It’s best to travel with others when possible, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area.
• Travel Documents: Keep your passport, visa, and yellow fever vaccination certificate easily accessible — you may need to show them at the airport and occasionally during local travel. A travel pouch or money belt is useful for carrying these securely.

Nigeria is full of vibrant culture, music, food, and people — and with a little preparation, you’ll be able to enjoy it with confidence. First-time travelers often find it eye-opening, inspiring, and unforgettable.

What happens if something on the itinerary has to change?

We do our absolute best to deliver every activity and experience as outlined — but like any travel experience, unexpected changes can come up. This might include things like weather delays, local holidays, venue closures, or other circumstances beyond our control.

If we ever need to adjust the itinerary, we’ll make sure to substitute with a similar or equally valuable experience. Your enjoyment, comfort, and safety are our top priorities, and we’ll always communicate any changes clearly and in advance when possible.
